SHIPPING SERVICES FROM EUROPE

Nov 03

Many of you will by now have experienced delays in receiving seafreight shipments, not only from Europe but also North and South East Asia as well. The reason for these delays is the so called "port congestion" all shipping lines are saying they are experiencing in Singapore.

This is not a problem that is affecting just tranship New Zealand service. It is affecting all service out of Singapore regardless of destination.

The problem as far as Europe origin cargo is concerned is that there are virtually no direct same vessel services available as an alternative any longer. Almost all services from North Europe / UK and the Mediterranean are now tranship services through Singapore or Tanjung Pelepas.

There is one direct option from North Europe (Hamburg Sud), however these vessels have very limited space, and the direct HAPAG LLOYD sailings, which are mainly used to service the Mediterranean ports (La Spezia), will finish shortly. We understand this will be replaced by yet another tranship service.

In short we are in the position of having to ship containers on services that we know there are problems with and almost certainly delays.

We can assure you that everything is being done to keep these delays to a minimum. Confirmed European uplift data is being sent thru to the respective shipping lines as soon as the cargo has left in the hope that pre-bookings can be arranged and confirmed on to the 2nd leg vessels. It also assists us in keeping track of each container we ship.

However despite this we are still experiencing delays with many containers. Our only advice at this point is to allow an additional week for the seafreight transit time from Europe through to New Zealand.

We will do our very best to ensure these delays are kept to a minimum, however to a large extent we are very reliant upon the performance of other agencies.

If you have any particular concerns please do not hesitate to Bryan Hutson.
