PSS - Peak Season Surcharge from North Asia to NZ (Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan)

Friday, 22 January 2010

All carriers have now announced their intention to effectively roll their PSS into the base ocean freight rates. The effective date varies between carriers, with most indicating either the 1st or 15th February at this stage. The overall effect of this will be revenue neutral from rate plus PSS that currently exists.

The carriers reasoning for this integration is their desire to get the freight rates up to profitable levels so that they can maintain premium services. This is a worldwide trend following last years financial results, which saw shipping lines lose an estimated USD 20 billion globally.

Please note these changes will be reflected in our quotations shortly.
In terms of LCL, the PSS charge will be withdrawn and the base ocean freight rate will be increased by the same quantum, namely USD 10.00 per wm.

Please contact us should any further information on this be required.
