Import Seafreight - Europe - Short shipments and Shipping Delays

Thursday, 25 February 2010

Unprecedented (and unexpected) high demand and volumes out of Europe, and also out of transhipment ports in Singapore and Cartagena, have resulted in continuous container short shipments and delays.

On average containers are taking at least 1 week longer to arrive in New Zealand.

The significant reduction of vessels (tonnage) on all of these trade routes due to last years recession is certainly a contributing factor to the current situation.

However despite this shipping lines have made it clear they are NOT going to be re-commissioning ships or increasing services in the near future.

That being the case we strongly recommend that you allow for 7 week transit times out of main port Europe / Mediterranean to New Zealand.
