Import Seafreight: LCL Cargo Survey by MAF

Feb 20

As part of their ongoing monitoring process, MAF will be carrying out a survey of inbound LCL / FAK cargo commencing 25th February 2008 in Auckland. This will involve the random selection of FAK or groupage containers for inspection of wood packaging and commodities as manifested. MAF are proposing to check one in every ten FAK containers. The selected containers will be held unopened at the unpack depot and a booking will be made for a MAF officer to be on site for inspection upon devan. MAF are committed to having resources available in order that normal unpack operations are not disrupted in any way, but please note that there may be slight delays in the availability of LCL cargo. We expect these delays to be negligible, if any at all, and will be working closely with MAF to ensure any such occurrences are minimised. A timely reminder also to ensure that all wood packaging that is utilised must be compliant with the NZ Import Health Standard for Wood Packaging. Imported wood packaging material must be free of regulated pests, any extraneous material (eg. leaves, soil), be bark-free and must be treated in accordance with ISPM15 (International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures) levels, and issued with appropriate certification. If original treatment certification is NOT provided upon import, and / or the wood packaging is not labelled in a manner that complies with ISPM 15 standards, the wood packaging material will be considered untreated, and be subject to treatment, reshipment or destruction (at the importer’s expense).
