Import Seafreight : ITALIAN PORT CONGESTION / DELAYS

Mar 04

The Italian Ports of Genoa and Livorno are experiencing major congestion. Apparently a new Port computer system in Genoa has not been working correctly. This caused the Port Authorities to initially stop then limit the number of export containers that could be booked on to vessels leaving that port.

Exporters quickly began sending containers to the closest port, Livorno (Leghorn), however not being a large port Livorno became congested as well.

We are currently finding that at least one and often two vessels are being missed before containers are loaded.

If you have urgent containers to come out of this area please call Bryan Hutson or Lorna Smith.

There are other options from La Spezia although these tend to be a little more expensive.
