March 14 - Auckland Port Strike - Update

UPDATE ON INDUSTRIAL ACTION AT PORTS OF AUCKLAND

Ports of Auckland advised on 7th March that they had decided to introduce competitive stevedoring into its Fergusson and Bledisloe Container Terminal operations. They advised that this announcement comes after an extensive eight week consultation and evaluation process. The port is expected to appoint three different companies to supply stevedoring services at the Port and these parties will be confirmed from 9th March 2012 with the aim for them to commence operations in late April.

The latest Ports of Auckland updates along with a full overview of the situation and their plans moving forward, are available on their website - http://needforchange.poal.co.nz

A list of vessels and contingency plans known to date is below for your reference.

We will keep you updated of further developments as information comes to hand, but should you require anything further in the interim, please do not hesitate to contact your Mondiale Representative.

 UPDATE

The shipping lines have various contingency plans in place for vessels arriving during this period, and in most circumstances, are applying charges to cover their additional onforwarding and handling costs.

Where more than one contingency alternative is offered by a shipping line, your Mondiale Representative will contact you on a case by case basis with costs and options, in order to ascertain your requirements.

Please be advised that any additional fees applied by the shipping lines will be on charged at cost for FCLs. Likewise, for LCL / Groupage cargo, an appropriate 'per wm' rate will be calculated & charged in accordance with our outlay.

We will do all we can to ensure that Groupage containers move on the quickest service available to us, and we are working with our unpack depots to arrange for all LCL cargo to become available as soon as possible.

Arrival dates and discharge ports are extremely fluid, and will often differ for the same vessel by shipping line and / or customer specification (where there is more than one onforwarding option available), but we will endeavour to keep you updated of the latest arrival information at all times.

Should you require any further information or have any urgent cargo requirements, please contact your Mondiale Representative, in order that we can plan accordingly and do all possible to meet your needs.
