Update - 2nd April - Auckland Port

UPDATE ON INDUSTRIAL ACTION AT PORTS OF AUCKLAND
POAL have announced that they had cancelled the lockout which was due to start on 6 April, on the basis that the parties return to the bargaining table. MUNZ members are expected to be back at work 6 April at latest, but we will keep you updated of the latest developments.

There continues to be heavy demand on rail resources in the North Island due to the additional volumes currently moving from both Wellington and Tauranga as a result of vessel diversions to ports other than Auckland. Ports of Tauranga have implemented several measures in order to facilitate the movement of containers and reduce delivery times in Auckland, and are doing all possible to clear a considerable backlog caused by the volume. Please bear in mind that there are significant delays, and transit times of 5 – 7 days are not unusual under the current circumstances, despite best efforts by all. Likewise, carriers have continued to experience   delays uplifting containers at Ports of Auckland, with limited resources and operational hours being contributing factors, and Metroport, as a result of the additional volume.

Several of the lines have indicated that they will be introducing blanket surcharges on all imports into NZ, in an effort to recover some of their handling costs associated with the industrial action at the Ports of Auckland.

Note that these surcharges are in addition to any other charges levied by the lines for operational costs directly associated with the movement of containers within New Zealand ports, and in many cases, apply to ALL import cargo into New Zealand, regardless of port of discharge. All lines have indicated that they will apply until further notice.

For FCL cargo, any additional fees will be on charged at cost as usual. Likewise, for LCL / Groupage cargo, an appropriate 'per wm' rate has been calculated & charged in accordance with our outlay. This charge will appear as a Port Congestion Surcharge on your invoice.

We will keep you updated of further developments as information comes to hand, but should you require anything further in the interim, please do not hesitate to contact your Mondiale Representative.

CONTINGENCY PLANS & COSTS
The shipping lines have various contingency plans in place for vessels arriving during this period, and in most circumstances, are applying charges to cover their additional onforwarding and handling costs.

Where more than one contingency alternative is offered by a shipping line, your Mondiale Representative will contact you on a case by case basis with costs and options, in order to ascertain your requirements.

Should you require a container to be terminated at the Port of Discharge in order that you can make your own onforwarding and delivery arrangements, please let us know as soon as possible.

Any additional fees applied by the shipping lines will be on charged at cost for FCLs. Likewise, for LCL / Groupage cargo, an appropriate 'per wm' rate will be calculated and on charged in accordance with our outlay.

We will endeavour to ensure that all charges are included on your original invoice, but in some cases a supplementary invoice will need to be raised, where we are advised of additional costs after the fact. We appreciate your understanding in such circumstances, as unfortunately this is outside of our control.

We will do all we can to ensure that Groupage containers move on the quickest service available to us, and we are working with our unpack depots to arrange for all LCL cargo to become available as soon as possible.

Arrival dates and discharge ports are extremely fluid, and will often differ for the same vessel by shipping line and / or customer specification (where there is more than one onforwarding option available), but we will endeavour to keep you updated of the latest arrival information at all times.
