REMINDER : Imports into Australia : Increase in Import Processing Charge From 1st Jan 2014

Further to our advice early this year, please see attached announcement as a result of the recent budget in Australia, which will have an impact on importers. The current bill is currently under debate in the Australian parliament.   The new charges are more than likely to come into effect on 1st January 2014.   In summary ;

The current charges that you would be used to receiving from Australian customs are :

  • $88.00 for the first container and $24.00 per container thereafter
  • $70.00 for LCL
  • $55.20 for airfreight

From 1st January for consignments over AUD10000.00 in invoice value the following charges will apply ;

  • $190.60 for the first FCL and $24 per container thereafter
  • 172.60 for LCL
  • $137.10 for airfreight

The increase therefore to the importer is : $102.60 for FCL & LCL shipments and $81.90 for airfreight 

These increases are regulatory disbursement charges which are passed on at cost at time of clearance and payable to the Australian government bodies.
