* Update * Spanish stevedore strikes
We are pleased to advise that the strike for the first 5 announced days (24th, 26th, 29th, 31st May and 2nd June) has been suspended.
The employer’s association and stevedore’s unions have agreed to a round of meetings to be held over the next days with the aim of reaching an agreement for the stevedoring sector. If an agreement is not met there is the potential of strikes on the 5th, 7th and 9th of June.
History tells us that when this happened earlier this year a container congestion situation quickly occurred due to carriers deciding to cancel port calls in Spain for fear ofs ips getting delayed there. We can only imagine this will happen again but perhaps worse due to timing (closer to peak season pre-holiday period), so we suggest importers take into account shipment delays even after this strike period.
We will continue to update you as information comes to hand.
