German & UK Port Closures & Congestion – Seafreight

Mar 05

Both major German ports Hamburg & Bremerhaven continue to experience congestion issues due to regional booking volumes combined with bad weather. This is leading to backlogs at both German inland depots & at rail terminals of surrounding countries, ie Hungary, due to large container volumes being delivered in at the same time, however rail being cancelled due to bad weather.

Reports are that the current weather situation is approximately -8°C in the North of Germany and -15°C in the South of Germany which has led to delays in truck & rail deliveries.

UK Ports - London Gateway, Felixstowe and Tilbury were closed Monday/ Tuesday of last week; with Felixstowe remaining closed up until Friday UK time. Congestion and delays are to be expected from this.

We are monitoring this closely however should you have any concerns please contact your Mondiale representative.
