This year (January to present day) has seen an increase of 20% in the cost of oil. With that in mind the carriers have advised their intention to introduce an Emergency Bunker Sucharge (EBS) southbound globally to New Zealand.
LCL to NZAs we use these carriers to provide our groupage service from these areas to New Zealand, we will have no option but toalso introduce a LCL EBS from the above ports. These are as follows and come into effect sailings on|after 1st June 2018 ;
North Europe to North Island EUR 2.25 per w|m Hamburg Sud service to South Island US$ 2.50 per w|m MSC | Maersk service
UK EUR 2.25 per w|m Hamburg Sud serviceMediterranean EUR 2.25 per w|m Hamburg Sud serviceMiddle East (Turkey) US$ 2.50 per w|m Maersk service
Australia (all ports) AU$ 3.00 per w|m
Asia no surcharge applied at this stage
All carriers have said they are continually monitoring the situation. At this time the oil market is fluctuating daily so the above surcharges could quickly change. A 20% increase in oil price would see the current EBS double, but a 15% reduction would see them disappear. We will keep you advised of any changes.
