Updated : Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) – Imports to New Zealand

Mondiale wishes to remind our customers that we are fast approaching BMSB season so it is time to be aware of the Import Biosecurity Requirements related to the prevention of BMSB into New Zealand. These requirements apply to target risk cargo from affected origins and the duration of the BMSB seasons is from ETD Origin 1st September 2020 to ETA NZ 30th April 2021. MPI have closed submissions for the consultation process and are working through the submissions that were received as quickly as possible. MPI are working towards a release date for the new Import Health Standard between 10th and 14th August 2020. One proposed change of note is that three additional countries have been added to the Schedule 3 list of risk countries for VMP. These are Moldova, Portugal and Ukraine. Up-to-date information on BMSB is available through the following link;

https://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/importing/vehicles-and-machinery/requirement-documents-for-importing-vehicles-machinery-or-parts/brown-marmorated-stink-bug-requirements

The MPI website provides specific information including Fact Sheets, Target Risk Countries and Target Risk Goods plus much more. Until the proposed amended IHS has been issued, the current requirements remain in place. Clients are strongly urged to familiarise themselves with the requirements and to liaise with their suppliers to ensure compliance. Mondiale origin agents will also provide information to suppliers throughout the BMSB season. Mondiale will provide more information on BMSB as it comes to hand.
